Just keep stepping: having faith to take the next step.
We are going to talk about faith today. And when I get to talk about faith I love to use the story of the ten men with leprosy. Now I know what you are thinking, it does not sound like a good choice for the subject. But there is a lot between the lines that we will be looking at.
So let's look at our story for today.
“Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.”
Luke 17:11-14
Did anything stick out to you? A lot stuck out to me. So let's get to it!!!
The first thing that stuck out to me was the bible said they “called out in a loud voice”, the problem with this, is that one of the symptoms of leprosy was a hoarse whisper. They could not yell. But when you are desperate for something, nothing will stop you!!!
The second one is they yelled “Jesus, Master, have pity on us”. The law stated in Leviticus 13:1- that they had to stay away from people, and yell I am unclean, I am unclean, I am unclean when they saw anyone. But I love that they didn't cry out I am unclean, they didn't state their crisis, but they gave Jesus the authority/honor over their situation.
The third one is Jesus sent them to the priests BEFORE they were healed. That's not logical, why would the men with leprosy go to the priests before they were healed, while they were still unclean. So they had a choice. Choice A was go to the priest like God said (unlogical) or choice B stay where they were at because they were not healed. So they went with choice A, the not logical one. And on the way to the priest they were healed.
When you step out in faith, you step into God's plan for your Life! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Said “Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase”. The idea is God is always going to call you to unlogical, unconventional and sometimes scary things. But if we don't take a step, we could miss out on our healing.
I hope this encourages you to step out even when it's not logical!!!
Great post! I am so grateful that God has changed and enriched my life each time I've chosen to step out in faith.
