Why does God let bad things happen?
As the16th anniversary of 9-11 passes and with all the devastating hurricanes, a lot of people have been asking me this question.
Why does God let bad things happen to good people?
This is one of the hardest questions a Christian can answer! And the answer is you are asking the wrong question. Let look at John 9:1-5 out of the message.
“Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?” Jesus said, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. We need to be energetically at work for the One who sent me here...”
In life when there is something we don't understand or don't think is fair, our human nature is to try to find something to blame. If we can find something to blame we are able to cope with it a little better. When in fact we should be looking for what God can do in the situation.
Let use Hurricane Harvey as an example. Have you seen what God is doing in Texas? People were worshiping in the middle of the hurricane, People have dropped everything to help strangers! People have looked for every opportunity to serve, people have prayed harder in the last few weeks then in a long time.
I started to lose hope in our generation, we have let race divide us, but though the hurricanes I have seen people look at each other as HUMAN BEINGS, not by the color of their skin!
Dave Willis has a quote that says “Faith isn't a feeling. It's a choice to trust God even when the road ahead seems uncertain.”
I encourage you to trust God's plan, even when we don't understand. In Isaiah 55:8 it says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. What I get from that verse is. We won't understand what God is doing (if we did, he would not be God.), but I can trust in knowing that he only wants the best for me.
So with saying that. I will trust God even when it doesn't make sense, and I will choose to look for what God can do in the situation, instead of trying to find blame. Hope you will do the same!
And don't forget to share!
