The haunted heart: how to let go of your past
Is your heart haunted? What I mean is, does your past haunt you? The greatest weapon the enemy has against us is our past. Well guess what? It no longer has a hold on you!
Today we will be talking about how to let go of our Past, and why we should.
I want to start with Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
In this scripture God was talking to Israel, Israel at this point was in the middle of a teenage relationship with God, you know the one where they break up, and get back together so frequently you never know what they are? Well this is where they were.
There is a lot I want to highlight in this verse, but today we are going to focus on the first part of this verse “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”.
This is so important, do you know why a lot of people don't achieve greatness today? They allow what has happened in the past to keep them there. We allow our circumstances to keep us from following God's plan for us. In this verse God was pleading with Israel to Forget the former things, to stop dwell on the past. Because he was ready to move them, but they were to focus on the past, that they lost sight of the feature. And the same thing can happen to us if we are not careful!
I want you to look at life has it was a garden, full of weeds. What would happen if you tried to plant something in It? The weeds would choke the plants to death. But what would happen if the garden was weed free, and you planted it, the plants would flourish. In this case the weeds are our past. If we don't let it go, it is going to choke our spiritual life to death.
Aren't you so glad that God does not let us stay in the past! Because he is doing something new, and you are going to use what you learned in your past to keep you from making the same mistakes.
Remember that garden that we talked about,
God is doing something new in your life, it's spring up! Are you ready for it?
